Official Scouting Report

  • OFPosition Projection

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Gage has developed nicely over the years into a very solid OF prospect. With an athletic frame, a ton of speed (6.60 60 yard dash), and the ability to swing it from both sides of the plate, he makes things happen on the diamond in a variety of ways. As a hitter, he showed very well from both sides. He looks comfortable in the box with fluid rhythm and loose hands. Barrel delivery is quick as he squares the ball up consistently and drives it with pop (exit velocity = 89 mph). He is quick out of the box and down the 1B line, putting pressure on the defense. In the OF, he tracks down balls hit into the gaps with speed. He has the ability to play any of the 3 OF spots. Transfer is quick/clean with throws from a cannon on a line (90 mph). Bane is a talented athlete who leaves it all on the field day in and day out.

07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Gage continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves his foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter. Hands are quick and work through an uphill swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Gage is lean OF who will graduate in 2020. At the plate is where he shows best. He is a switch hitter that displays similar abilities from both sides. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. In the OF, feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. He makes the routine play but will benefit by working to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 1/2 years to further develop, Gage has abilities with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
