07/31/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Gage is a strong 2020 catcher. Behind the dish he sets up low with soft hands to receive the pitch. He replaces his feet well going to 2B putting throws on the bag with some carry. Blocking, Gage works as hard to block the ball and improved as the camp went on. Sitting in a squarer stance will help Gage improve his target that pitchers can control for. At the plate he sets up with low hands as he works to keep his mechanics simple. He gets a load going keeping his balance centered as he works to get on plane with the pitch. Gage shoes the ability to hit to all fields. Using the lower half more and staying in the back half will serve. Gage has good size for a catcher and will find his balance to continue to grow. Gage has a bright future ahead of himself.

02/03/2019 - College PREP - Mobile, AL Gage is a tall C prospect who will graduate in 2020. Behind the plate, Gage shows efficient footwork and covers up well when blocking. He sits in a low stance and receives with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with carry through the 2B bag. Getting into a better secondary stance can help Gage improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes his stride on time. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistent contact and gap to gap power. Gage can improve as a hitter by consistently staying through the ball. Overall, Gage is a solid prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
