07/14/2017 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Gage is a strong built LHP/1B prospect who has a versatile skill set and graduates in 2018. On the mound, Gage has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He does a nice job keeping his head on his target while employing a simple mechanics. He has a clean arm action and extends through his release. Gage has a controlled landing and rotates with his core towards his target. His fastball has cut movement and his curveball shows good depth. Offensively, Gage has a square stance with a centered balance and quiet head. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and short, square stride. Gage shows solid separation and gets good extension at contact to produce hard contact. He has good rotation in his swing and can drive the ball to the pull side. In the field, Gage plays with active, effective footwork and cover good ground. He keeps everything in front of his body and presents his glove as he fields the ball in a square position. Gage has a clean exchange leading into a short arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. His throws are accurate with good carry across the diamond. Overall, Gage is a hardworking prospect who has a solid approach to the game giving him upside to get even better with development.

02/25/2017 - College PREP - Sioux Falls, SD Gage is a young, raw 2018 LHP prospect. He shows off a live, clean arm on the bump that allows his stuff to play up to hitters with control of his arsenal. He shows a strong lower half that he drives off of to jump to the plate and his shoulders rotate to generate arm whip. He features a three pitch mix of a fastball with run at 70mph, a late breaking 2-8 curveball and a deceptive change with run. Working on keeping his weight over the rubber until he separates will lead to more command as he will get to a consistent release point. At the dish, he shows good tracking ability and strike zone awareness that will allow him to have good at bats against any pitcher. His strong frame leads to good power to the pull side as he launches through the zone from a stacked load, using a strong stride to incorporate his lower half. Gage is an interesting prospect who we look forward to continue watching.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
