Official Scouting Report

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Garret is a long and lean 2020 Shortstop. Has all of the right actions defensively, has a great 1st step, gets to the ball on time, fields it cleanly and releases it quickly and accurately to his targets. His quickness allows for extended range and his ability to play both positions on the left side of the Infield. Also pitched at the event, showing well on the mound. Has some feel for pitching, mixes in 3 pitches and can get hitters out. His Fastball ranges 81-84mph and has good command. Keeps hitters off balance with a 70-72mph Curveball and a 70mph Changeup. Mechanics are clean and he works downhill very well and uses his size to his advantage. At the plate, Garret activates his swing nicely, creates very good rhythm and delivers the barrel to the baseball with authority. Posting a 95mph Bat Exit Velocity, displays Garret's bat speed, control and hand strength. Looks to do well at the next level.

10/17/2018 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Garret is a lanky and athletic 2020 SS prospect that worked hard during the Junior Fall classic. At SS, Garret is on time with his prep step, he anticipates the ball off the bat, and creates angles to the ball. He has a clean exchange, plays through the ball, and throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, Garret starts in an athletic stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He hits off a firm front side, has quick hands, and drives the ball to the right side of the field. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and adjust with 2 strikes. Garret will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Garret showed well at the UAAAPS Tournament with Baseball Factory. The 6'2/185 lbs SS that will graduate in 2020, displayed good actions, defensively, and a contact approach, offensively. At SS, he prepped his feet pre-pitch and moved efficiently to field ground balls with his glove in front. His arm worked easy to finish plays and he has a high ceiling. At the plate, he had a fluid move to hit and centered balance. His path was direct to contact and he drove through the baseball. Overall - Garret is a projectable athlete that has current tools, with room to continue improving over the next 3 years of high school.

10/04/2017 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Garret is a tall, athletically built SS/3B prospect who has a versatile skill set. He showed very well during his time at the Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic. Offensively, this righty has an athletic stance with centered balance and a strong base. He has smooth rhythm with a square, on-time stride. Garret tracks the ball well and shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path. He barrels the ball up and drives it on a line to all parts of the field (exit velocity = 92mph). He has a great eye and shows tremendous plate discipline and doesn't swing at much out of the zone, drawing 4 walks. In the field, Garret plays with fluid, active footwork taking effective angles to cover good ground. He moves with agile actions showing the ability to move in each direction laterally. Garret presents his glove and fields the ball in an athletic position with soft hands. He has a quick, clean exchange leading into a short, loose arm action. He has the ability to change his arm slot and make the tough throws on the run. Overall, Hill is a talented prospect who has a ton of upside and is one to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

12/27/2016 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Garret is a tall, lanky SS/RHP prospect who has good potential and a solid skill set. In the field, Garret plays with fluid footwork and covers good ground. He receives the ball with soft hands and has a slow exchange leading into a long arm action. Garret throws from a 3/4 slot with consistent, strong results across the diamond. Offensively, Garret has tall stance with a centered balance. He takes a good load with an on-time stride. Garret has a long swing path and shows solid contact to the pull side. On the mound, Garret has a balanced delivery with a loose arm action that extends through his release. He is well coordinated landing squarely in a controlled manner with proper stride length. Garret features a fastball with run and medium breaking curveball. Overall, Garret has high upside on both sides of the ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
