08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Garrett continues to show improvements in his baseball tools. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.22 as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills are solid as he shows off his athletic abilities. He communicates well behind the plate and shows good leadership traits. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved as well through an open setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Lower half works well through the swing through a line drive approach. At the event, he was 4 for 8. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a solid team player. A talented prospect, he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

01/15/2018 - College PREP - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Garrett is a lean, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time of 6.99. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed a range of 2.25-2.30 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he tracks balls well through the receiving process through an athletic setup. He uses his body well through the blocking process and moves well laterally, centering all balls out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He is aggressive and makes consistent hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Garrett has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
