Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Garrett continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays on plane and makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Hands are clean and present well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. He moves well laterally with range improving as he improves quickness. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 43-46 mph with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

01/06/2018 - Southwest Regional Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Ages 12-14) Garret is a hard working and athletic 2023 prospect. He's a student of the game and made several adjustments during the Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend. At the plate, Garret starts in a tall stance and gets his front foot down on time. He has fluid rhythm in his body and loads his hands into the launch position. He uses his lower half and stays balanced through contact. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball will allow him to create backspin on the ball. Keeping a quiet head and having a middle approach will help him stay back on the ball. Garret will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/05/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Plano (DFW), TX Garrett is a young (2023 grad) R/R 2-way player as a 2B/RHP. Defensively at 2B, he shows quick/active footwork and comes to get the GB. He works around the ball, gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. With the bat, this righty displays a crouched stance with active hands. He takes a hack at pitches he likes and looks to drive the ball up the middle of the field. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He gets to a controlled balance point, has on-time separation and fires from a quick arm action. FB tops out at 49 mph as he throws it for strikes. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape while CH is thrown with FB arm speed. Continuing to work on the following will help to improve his overall skills on the diamond.

Defense
1. Backhand
2. DP Feeds/Turns
3. Transfer/exchange
Offense
1. Let the ball travel deeper
2. Timing of stride
3. Shorter/more direct swing path
Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Stay directional
3. Off-speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
