01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Garrett continue to show as a top prospect on the baseball diamond. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Feet / hands work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with zip (86 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength (93 mph exit velocity) in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 76-80 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

10/10/2018 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Garrett is an athletic and talented 2019 2-way prospect that worked hard and made several adjustments throughout the event. On the bump, Garrett has a loose arm, extends thru his delivery, and has a strong lower half. He works north to south and has good mound presence. His fastball touches 93 and his breaking ball is his out pitch. If he continues to long toss with his changeup he will develop more feel for the pitch. At 1B, Garret starts in an athletic stance, presents a low/early glove, and fields the ball in front of his body. Continuing to practice game like throws in his throwing program will increase his ability to throw from multiple arm angles and on the run. At the plate, Garrett starts in an athletic stance, loads his hands back, and creates major backside rotation with his lower half. He's aggressive on the fastball and shows pull side pop. Garret will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Exchange is clean with strong (89 mph raw velocity) throws. At the plate, he has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone (97 mph exit velocity) as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it with power showing to the pull side. Garrett stays square to home plate and effectively uses his front side. He throws a heavy fastball with good command at 74-80 MPH. His curveball has good movement and can be effective when thrown for strikes. As a left-handed hitter, Garrett has a square, athletic stance with a centered balance and quiet head. 10/18/2015 - College PREP - Santa Rosa, CA Garrett is a 2-way player (LHP/1B) who has a tall/projectable frame (6'0"/225). On the mound, this lefty has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from a high 3/4 arm slot & free/clean arm action. He gets good glove-side lead, smooth separation, stays directional toward the dish. He works tall and drives downhill toward the dish. He keeps his FB down in the zone (73-74 mph) which will get a lot of GB outs. Curveball is best pitch as it shows 12/6 shape with sharp action - as he can throw it for strikes in any count. At 1B - James hustles into a square fielding position and is due handed. He gathers well and moves well around the bag. Continuing to develop his footwork/agility will help to improve his lateral quickness. Offensively, this LHH has an athletic/balanced setup with rhythm to load. He takes a hack, hits the ball where it's pitched and drives it to all parts of the field. Garrett (2019 grad) has a ton of upside with a bright future on the mound.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
