01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Garrett is a young, solid 1B/RHP that will graduate in 2017. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure as he makes the routine plays. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more, play through, while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He has good strike zone awareness and makes consistent contact. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more and add overall body strength. At the event, he was 3 for 8. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 63-66 mph. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable. With 3 years to further develop, Garrett has abilities with a lot of room to improve.
