Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/CPosition Projection

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Garrett worked out primarily as a 3B at the UAAAPS Event with Baseball Factory. The 6'2/185 lbs sophomore flashed strength at the dish with fluidity in his move to hit. He kept his balance centered and worked with fast bat speed, generating torque with his frame and with hitting off a stiff front side. He was consistent with contact and stayed on-place with his path. At the hot corner, the tall athlete worked his feet effectively to make plays - taking a good first step. He showed a clean exchange to the barehand and threw with consistency across the diamond. In all - Garrett has a bright future ahead of him with 3 years of high school ball in front of him.

10/16/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Garrett continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a tremendous future on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.94. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry on his throws. Arm strength is outstanding as indicated by his top velocity of 87 mph. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At 3B, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / clean as he presents well out front. At the plate he has improved, now displaying solid hitting with well above average power potential. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Barrel accuracy is outstanding with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Garrett will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities as he continues to progress his game.

02/13/2016 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Lowe is a young hitter that shows some exciting potential at the plate. There is bat speed present to Garrett's stroke and he does show some pop to the pull side. Developing a bit more consistency to the stride and load complex while staying loose and athletic will allow for Garrett's stroke to be shorter and more compact allowing him let the ball travel deeper into the hitting zone and get that good extension that he flashes more consistently. Just a 2019 grad, with years ahead to work on development, Garrett is a player to keep an eye on in the years ahead.

12/13/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Madison (NYC), NJ Garrett is a talented 2-way player (C/3B) who has a projectable build (6'1"/170). He has progressed nicely and has molded himself into a solid prospect. Behind the dish, Lowe sits in well and tracks pitches into a soft mitt. Exchange is clean as he puts throws accurately on the bag - pop times at 2.38. At 3B - Garrett has active footwork taking good angles around the GB. He funnels smoothly, plays through the ball and fires strong throws with carry to 1B. Offensively, this RHH has a balanced/athletic setup with a solid base. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 and pulls it with pop. A 2019 grad - Garrett has tools with a ton of upside. He is one to keep an eye on in the upcoming years.

12/14/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Madison (NYC), NJ Garrett is a young, R/R 2-way player as a C/3B. Behind the dish, he sits in well and presents a low target. He works quickly around pitches in the dirt and centers the ball off of his chest. He gains ground toward 2B on his throws down with pop times as low as 2.41. At 3B, he shows active footwork and moves well into a square fielding position. He has a clean exchange and fires accurate throws with carry across the diamond. With the bat, this RHH shows a closed setup with good balance. He has rhythm in his hands and is aggressive to take a hack. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

2. Blocking
3. Arm strength (long toss)

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
