Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Garrett showed as a 3B/RHP at the Preseason All American and continues to show steady progress in his baseball tools. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) generating bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. At 3B, he is fundamentally sound, displaying smooth fluid actions. He moves well laterally with hands / feet working well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and on line carry to his throws. On the mound, fastball showed in the low 80 range with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late breaking action. Garrett is a sure player to follow and will get looks from the collegiate coaches.

09/13/2015 - College PREP - Oak Creek (Milwaukee), WI Garrett is a big, thick RHP/3B that will graduate in 2016 with a promising future on the diamond. Currently, he projects best at 3B for the next level but has an upside on the mound. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through an aggressive approach and works through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing works and shows plus barrel accuracy as he stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, displaying gap to gap pop. At 3B, feet are active / aggressive as he moves well laterally and works to square balls up, displaying soft / sure hands well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Defensive grades will continue to improve as he works to improve backhand and increases foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength is solid as indicated by his top velocity of 83 mph. Fastball shows a range of 76-83 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with downward action. He throws a slider that shows potential as being a quality pitch, displaying tight spin and late bite. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Garrett has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
