09/24/2011 - Accelerated Pitching/Catching Weekend
Garrett has a good arm action and late life to his pitches. Garrett has a tendency to rush his load and not finish down. He needs to work on loading his backside and then transferring his weight effectively down the mound into a lower front side finish. Garrett also needs to play with the grip on his change-up so that he can take more off of it without having to slow down his arm, there should be about a 8-12 mph difference between fastball and change-up velocity.
08/10/2011 - Pirate City World Series 2011 - Session 2
Garrett continues to work hard to improve his game in all areas. His running time in both the sixty yard dash and home to first times improved from his previous workout. He continues to show his athletic ability in the OF with a quick first step and his aggressiveness to the ball. He makes the accurate throw to his target with good carry. A few areas to clean up defensively are a lower approach to fielding the ball and a quicker exchange to throw. At the plate he continues to show a solid approach with good balance throughout but he needs to continue to work in a few areas. He has to keep his hands inside the baseball better to help develop more bat speed. He also needs to try and keep his front shoulder closed to have more plate coverage. Garrett is a good kid and works hard on the field and with some adjustments will continue to improve all areas to his game.
06/05/2011 - College PREP - Troy (Albany), NY
Garrett is an athletic OF with a solid build. Defensively, Garrett has fluid footwork, he covers ground, and he works behind the ball. He has soft / sure hands, fields in an athletic position, and his exchange is clean. Garrett has good direction toward home, his arm is loose, and he throws with accuracy and good strength to his cutoff man. Defensive grades can improve if Garrett can quicken his exchange, take less steps to throw, and avoid flying open. Offensively, Garrett has an athletic set-up, a proper load, and a short / square stride. He has good balance, a repeatable swing, and he makes square contact. Garrett is a line drive type hitter with some pop to the pull side. A less shouldery swing and staying short to the ball should help spike offensive tool grades.
