Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

04/13/2014 - National Tryout - Louisville, KY Garrett showed well both on the mound and at 1st base during his last workout in Louisville. On the hill, Garrett has good balance, solid direction toward home, and good front arm extension. He has a FB that touches 78 MPH, and he competes in the zone with his pitches. At 1st base, Garrett plays under control, he is quick to the ball, and his hands are soft. He is light on his feet, keeps the ball in front, and has a loose arm action to his target. At the plate, Garrett has good balance, a square setup, and he makes contact.

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Garrett is a young player who shows he has the potential to be a good player. At first, he has soft/sure hands and makes accurate throws. He is a big target, but still has effective footwork. He can work on his pre-pitch steps/routine and fielding position. On the mound, he has a good arm action and gets good extension which helps to create movement with pitches. Garrett separates on time and his shoulders stay level throughout his delivery. He can work on getting more drive to the plate which will lengthen out his stride and essentially help him finish in a more athletic position rather than finishing upright. At the plate, Garrett has a square set up and a short stride. His balance stays centered throughout his swing and he attacks the baseball. He can continue to work on his load/stride and creating separation between his front foot and his hands. He can also work on rhythm, and getting his lower half more involved in the swing. Overall, Garrett has potential and if he is willing to work hard to improve he will notice lots of positive improvements in his game.

04/07/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Louisville, KY Garrett is a tall, solid, 2-way player who pitches and plays 1st base. On the mound, Garrett has a long / loose arm action, he keeps his eyes on target, and he has on-time separation. He has level shoulders, good direction toward home, and he competes in the zone. At 1st base, Garrett has soft hands, active feet, and a quick exchange. He has a quick arm action and delivers the ball with some strength to his target. Offensively, Garrett has a square set-up, good balance, and fast bat speed. He makes square contact, his swing is level, and he keeps his hands inside the ball. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Finish
2. Avoid rushing
3. More arm extension
Defense
1. Field out front
2. Throwing accuracy
Offense
1. More lower 1/2
2. Rhythm / Timing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
