Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level / aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, displaying gap to gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 80 mph. Fastball shows good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with cutting action. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound.

12/06/2015 - College PREP - Sacramento, CA Garrison has maintained the ability to show consistency in his game. 60-time has improved again to a 7.54. Defensively he showed similar abilities as AZ Training. His loose actions and proper fundamentals in the OF continues to be affirmed by multiple of BF scouts. Offensively, Hands were activated with good actions delivering the barrel. Garrison has a solid swing and simple approach. On the mound, Garrison showed a solid 3 pitch mix with good command. He can focus on staying on top of his CB to improve effectiveness. Mechanics looked smooth with a free arm action. Continue to focus on staying direct and finishing chest to target.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona Gavin continues to show as a LHP/OF and continues to show improvements / progress in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, defensive grades are now outstanding, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls through an aggressive approach. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he continues to increase foot quickness. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the whole field and has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off bat when centered, displaying gap to gap power. On the mound, fastball showed a range in the mid 70 with solid arm side run. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to throw more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard with the makings of a special type player at he continues to develop.

09/06/2015 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Garrison is a strong 2-way player graduating in 2018. On the mound, he throws from the 3/4 arm slot with free arm action and a strong lower 1/2. He works downhill with all 3 pitches (FB 73-77 / CB 60-64 / CH 64-67). His pitches show late movement, making it tough for hitters to barrel up consistently. He pounds the zone with all 3 pitches and will be a solid arm in any rotation. In the OF, he tracks the ball well, gets a quick first step and throws with accuracy to the target. As he works to field out front and get a stronger crow hop through to the target his abilities in the OF will improve. At the plate, this LHH shows an open, repeatable swing path, spraying line drives to all fields. As he gains lower 1/2 strength and stronger hands, bat whip will help drive the ball to the gaps with authority. Overall, Garrison is a talented player with a bright future both on the mound and in the OF.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
