Official Scouting Report

12/10/2017 - National Tryout - Nyack (NYC), NY Gary continues to work hard on his skills. At SS, he displays active footwork and takes good angles to work around the GB. He funnels smoothly with a clean exchange to throw. At the plate, this righty has an open stance with centered balance. He takes a hack and looks to drive the middle for he field. Getting loaded sooner while working to stride more square will both result in increase power at the plate. On the mound, Gary works the zone with his 3-pitch mix. He keeps his eyes on the target, stays directional and repeats well. FB still sits mid to low 60's while CH shows slight arm side run. Getting more glove side lead while finishing with more extension will aid in his development on the mound. Only a 2022 grad, Gary has upside with still a lot of time to progress.

07/18/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Gary continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At SS, defensive abilities have improved as he displays proper footwork and moves well laterally. Hands are clean and presents well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. Range will continue to increase as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 65 mph. Fastball showed a range of 63-65 mph with cutting action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

05/14/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Poughkeepsie, NY Gary is a SS/RHP who will graduate in 2022. Defensively at SS, feet are active as he gets into an athletic fielding position. He fields the ball with good range and comes up with a clean exchange to throw. On the mound, this RHP delivers from a hi 3/4 arm slot with loose arm action. CH has hard downhill action as he works in line and finishes square towards home plate. With the stick, Gary displays an athletic/square setup with smooth rhythm to load. He swings on a level path through the zone as he drives pitches on a line with pop. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Field out in front
2. Develop soft hands
3. Quicker release
Pitching
1. Be a strike thrower
2. Stronger frontside
3. Develop CB
Offense
1. Use middle of field
2. More lower 1/2
3. Contact points

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
