Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

08/30/2020 - Official Player Development Membership - Pensacola, FL Gavin continues to progress on the diamond and has a ton of upside. With the bat, this strong lefty shows a tall/balanced stance with patience waiting for a pitch he likes. Barrel delivery is quick/direct to and through the zone as he connects and drives the ball with pop (exit velocity = 82mph). At 1B, he has active prep and comes to get the GB. He works into a square/athletic fielding position, tracks the GB into his mitt and makes the plays with soft hands. On the mound, this LHP has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and drives off of the rubber with a strong lower 1/2. FB tops out at 71 mph as he throws it for strikes consistently. CB has 1/7 shape while CH is thrown with FB arm speed, helping to create deception. Getting more glove-side lead and staying more directional toward the plate will aid in his development on the mound. Allen is a very talented 2-way prospect who has a bright future ahead in the game.

08/25/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Pensacola, FL Gavin is a young, lefty, 2-way player with good strength. At 1st base, Gavin has active feet, a presentable glove, and he covers ground well. He fields athletically, shows a clean exchange, and throws with momentum and accuracy to his target. On the mound, this LHP is aggressive in the zone, he works on a downhill plane, and he lands in a square direction toward the plate. Offensively, Gavin has an athletic stance, good balance, and he swings in good rhythm. He has fast bat speed, a consistent/direct barrel, and he can work the ball gap to gap. Gavin can continue to get better with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
