07/24/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Gavin is a good athlete who shows good hustle on the field and works hard to make the most of his tools. He is a very good defensive centerfielder and made two standout plays during games. He has fluid footwork with good range in the field and works behind the ball effectively with an athletic fielding position. He has a quick and clean exchange to throw and an accurate arm with loose action. Implementing a long toss program will increase arm strength and help Gavin become a complete outfielder. At the plate, he never gets cheated, taking big swings at the pitch he wants. He has good rhythm and gets to a good launch position, making consistent contact with a direct bat path. Gavin is an exciting prospect who we expect to make big strides on the field as he grows.

09/27/2015 - Interactive Video Program - New Orleans, LA Gavin is a young (2021 grad) 2-way player as an OF/SS. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and is aggressive in tracking down the fly-balls in the gap. He takes good routes/angles to the ball, secures it with 2-hands and plays through the ball well. At SS, Gavin shows active footwork moving well around the GB. He works from right to left and has a clean exchange to throw. DP feeds are accurate as he follows his flips well. Offensively, this RHH has a balanced setup with rhythm. Barrel delivery is level to and through the zone as he connects and drives the ball back up the middle of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
