Official Scouting Report

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Gavin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 74 mph. Fastball showed a range of 73-74 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve his foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

10/07/2018 - College PREP - Parker (Denver), CO Gavin is an athletic and talented 2021 2-way prospect. At 1B, Gavin is on time with his preps step, anticipates the ball off the bat, and presents a low/early glove. He works around the ball and has good footwork off the bag. At the plate, Gavin starts in a crouched stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and keeps a quiet head. He creates backside rotation with his lower half and drives the ball gap to gap. On the bump, Gavin gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and rotates toward his target. He has good tempo in his delivery and works downhill. His fastball tops out at 68 mph, his curveball has a medium break, and he sinks his changeup. Gavin will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
