03/27/2022 - All-In Membership - Orange (Los Angeles), CA Gavin ran his best 60 to date coming in at 6.82 seconds. With his consistent ability to get behind fly balls paired with his 82mph arm strength, he will continue to be a threat in the outfield. At 6'5", his comfort around the bag at first base is an added bonus. At the plate, his exit velocity bumped up 5mph since our last viewing now coming in at 87mph which is well above average. His athleticism is desirable and as he continues to fill into his body, he should turn heads.

09/19/2021 - All-In Membership - San Bernardino, CA Gavin is an OF/1B prospect who will graduate in 2023. Tall frame, with long levers, athletic build and plenty of physical projection remaining. In the OF, active/efficient feet enable him to cover ground in all directions. Good crossover steps enable to work behind the ball with a high catch. Fields from an athletic/square fielding position with clean gather off left foot. Made accurate/on-line throws into infield with an arm velocity up to 79mph. At 1B, he works to center the baseball, with efficient footwork, and ability to make routine plays. He fields from a low fielding position with his hands out front. Long arm action into a high 3/4 release point with accurate/on-line throws to second base. Showed good bag awareness and ability to scoop balls. A left-handed hitter, starts with an athletic and square stance. Has a smooth swing and hits ball out front. Good extension with ability to hit line drive drives into both gaps with a bat exit velocity of 82mph during BP. With 2 years of continued growth and development, we foresee this 2-way prospect having a bright future on the baseball diamond.

06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS) Gavin continues to shine on the diamond. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he utilizes his quick feet in covering a lot of ground. At 1B, he displays proper footwork and good bag awareness. Feet are active as he works to center balls up. At the plate, he shows a closed setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive swing path. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

05/16/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Orange (Los Angeles), CA In the last 6 months, Gavin has added 8 inches to his broad jump, 5 mph to his exit velocity (now up to 80mph), 4 mph to his arm strength (now up to 80mph) and shaved off 1/10th of a second on his 60 yard dash. In addition, he has added more physical size since we last saw him. Right now, projects better in the outfield where he can show off his mix of speed and arm strength. At the plate, he works inside the baseball consistently with a quiet set-up. This 2023 grad continues to impress as he wraps up his sophomore season.

11/04/2020 - Texas Fall Classic Gavin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.26. In the OF, he takes good first steps in reading balls off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy to his target. At the plate he continues to shine through an athletic, open setup. Hands are quick and work to and through the ball with a short / direct / level swing path, creating extension. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

10/04/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Bernardino, CA Given that this future Mater Dei graduate has grown 8 inches in the last year, color us impressed that he showed comfort in his new body as he worked out in both the outfield and at first base. In the OF, he is aggressive and plays through the baseball adding carry on his throws that are accurate to his target. He works from the ground-up at first base and keeps his approach simple. At the plate, Gavin takes a square stride, delivers the barrel consistently and gets his lower-half through. This wiry 2023 grad has an interesting mix of body strength and athleticism.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
