12/27/2018 - 2018 Inaugural West Coast Winter Classic - La Verne, CA Gavin is a coachable 2B/OF prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the West Coast Winter Classic. In the field, Gavin takes a good first step and displays active footwork. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance with comfortable hands. He drives through well with his lower half and takes a short swing path, driving the ball to his pull side. With four more years to develop, Gavin has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

10/28/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Santa Rosa, CA Gavin is a lean, 2-way player who plays SS and OF. In the INF, Gavin has quick/active feet, he attacks aggressively, and fields in a low position. He covers ground well, his exchange is clean, and he throws with momentum and consistency across the diamond. In the OF, Gavin has active feet, a quick 1st step, and he works behind the ball well. He stays behind properly, has a good glove angle, and an accurate arm to his cut off man. Offensively, Gavin has a tall stance, good balance, and fast bat speed. He makes hard/consistent contact, gets good extension through the ball, and he uses some lower body. Gavin can further improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Lighten footwork
2. Backhand
Outfield
1. Release
2. Catch at highest point
Offense
1. Let ball travel
2. More lower body

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
