Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2022 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Gavin continues to show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, delivery is sound and repeatable, allowing his arm action to work clean to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 85 mph. Fastball showed a range of 81-85 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. At 3B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft / sure and presents out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, flashing gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/06/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Tomball (Houston), TX Gavin is a 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2026. Medium frame athletic build with strength present. At 3B, starts with a good prep step, with active footwork, and has good body control at the baseball. Works from right to left and fields from an athletic/square fielding position with hands out front. Has a short/quick arm stroke and showed ability to throw from multiple arm slots with an arm velocity up to 88mph across the diamond. Made accurate throws, with good momentum towards target, and has a quick release. On the mound, he hides the ball well and showed a quick arm. He gets a good rear hip coil and works down the mound. He throws a FB that sits 82-84mph with plus command, an 10/4 shaped breaking ball with good depth through strike zone, and a changeup with downward movement that he throws with FB arm speed. FB was best pitch during his bullpen session. At the plate, he hits from a tall and closed stance. Smooth timing to swing, with activated hands, and keeps his weight between his knees. Showed quickness to his hands with good extension through the baseball. He gets on-plane early as he hit line drives consistently into both gaps with a bat exit velocity up to 76mph. With 4 years of continued growth and development, we see this 2-way prospect having a bright future on the baseball field.

08/08/2021 - All-In Membership - Tomball (Houston), TX Gavin is a 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2026. Athletic build with strength present and plenty of room to add throughout. At 3B, he shows active feet and good body control to his glove side. Works into a square fielding position and fields out front. Clean exchange into a high 3/4 arm slot, with a short arm, and his throws were accurate/on-line to first base at 82mph. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and keeps eyes on target throughout delivery. He works with good tempo and separates his hands on time. Throws a FB that sits 74-75mph with some arm side sink, a breaking ball with 11/5 shape and good depth, and a CH he throws with FB arm speed and some sink. FB was his best pitch during his bullpen session. A right-handed hitter who hits from an even and upright stance. Short/direct barrel path, with ability to barrel up balls, and has a high finish. During his round of BP, he sprayed the ball to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 81mph. With continued growth and development, we see this young 2-way prospect having opportunities to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
