01/27/2019 - College PREP - Dayton, OH Gavin showed best skills to date during his last workout with The Factory. He improved in all areas of his game. 60 time was lowest to date at 7.08 seconds, pop times were as low as 2.25 seconds, and hitting grades spiked to 48's. Behind the plate, Gavin has athletic actions, he sits in squarely, and blocks the baseball well. He has soft hands, a clean release, and he throws with momentum and carry to 2nd base. Continuing to loosen his arm action and gaining ground will help catching get better. At the plate, Gavin has a square/crouched set-up, good balance, and fast bat speed. He has a direct barrel, makes square/solid contact, and he works the middle of the field. More lower body and letting the ball travel deeper can help hitting grades further spike.

08/02/2018 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Gavin continues to show improvements in his baseball tools. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.28 as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to work on getting down quicker. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with 3 RBI. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a solid team player.

02/04/2018 - College PREP - Dayton, OH Gavin is a lean catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and uses the middle of the field well through a line drive approach. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed a range of 2.40-2.51 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he tracks balls well through the receiving process but needs to widen his base in setup. He uses his body well through the blocking process and moves well laterally, centering all balls out front. With 2 years to further develop, Gavin has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
