  • OFPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Gavin is a hard working and talented OF prospect. In the OF, Gavin has an active prep step and creates angles to the ball. He works behind the ball and creates momentum with his lower half when he throws. At the plate, Gavin has an athletic stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He has fast hands and attacks the ball with his lower half. He stays balanced through contact and shows pull side pop. Gavin will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/26/2017 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Gavin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.06. In the OF, defensive abilities are now above average as he displays smooth / athletic actions. He reads balls well off the bat and utilizes his athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. He works behind the baseball and plays through with momentum to his target and gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate he shows a squared setup and good plate discipline. Hands are quick (95 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. Fastball showed a range of 78-80 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. ] Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

03/12/2017 - College PREP - Albuquerque, NM Gavin is a lean, athletic OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.10. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with tremendous power potential. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball with gap to gap pop. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls and plays through well. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with on line carry to his target. Gavin has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
