06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS) Gavin is a 1B/OF prospect who will graduate in 2022. Tall frame, with long levers, and athletic build with strength present and plenty of room to add throughout. Ran a 7.07 60-yard dash. At 1B, efficient feet and a good prep step enable him to create good fielding angles in all directions. He fields the baseball out front and showed ability to spin glove side on throws to 2nd base. Long/loose arm action as he throws from a 3/4 arm slot. Accurate/on-line throws, with a quick release, and an arm velocity of 84mph. Showed good glove angle to his glove side and back hand. A right-handed hitter, hits from a upright and open stance. Showed ability to get on-plane early, with good extension out front, and made square contact into both gaps. Reached base 4 times, with a HR to left field, a single, and 2 base on balls and had a bat exit velocity of 90mph in live game action. Another year of continued growth and development, Gavin should have opportunities to play at the next level.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Gavin continues to show as prospect on the diamond. At 1B, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Feet / hands work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry (88 mph velocity) on his throws. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he displays pro level power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick generating bat speed (91 mph exit velocity) through an aggressive swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing with gap to gap pop. Gavin has a tremendous upside and will get looks from the top collegiate coaches and pro scouts with his baseball abilities.

06/07/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Birmingham, AL Gavin is a tall, athletic 1B who has a promising future on the diamond. Defensively at 1B, he has outstanding defensive abilities with smooth actions. He shows active prep with fluid actions. He works around the GB and through it as he gains ground toward his target. Footwork around the bag is solid and he is a quality receiver. Exchange is clean with accurate throws but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are clean and presents well out front and consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with excellent power potential through a squared setup. Hands are aggressive, quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing. Lower half works well through the swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Gavin has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
