10/07/2020 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Gavin is a coachable OF/RHP prospect who showed well during the Arizona Fall Classic. At the plate, Gavin shows great raw power from the right side (90mph exit velo). He gets his hands activated and hits against a strong front side, producing loud contact to all fields. In the field, Gavin is agile covering ground and makes plays. His exchange is smooth and he makes accurate throws with life through his target. On the mound, this righty gathers over the rubber and is fluid separating his hands. He works with a quick arm and accelerates through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Gavin shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph. Breaking ball sits from 62-65mph with 11-5 break. Overall, Gavin is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Gavin is a strong OF prospect who showed well at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the field, Gavin fields in a square position and makes a clean exchange. He throws with a loose arm and keeps his throws accurate and strong through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and line drives. Overall, Gavin is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

10/27/2019 - College PREP - Joplin, MO Gavin is a strong OF/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. In the OF, Gavin shows fluid footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, creating good carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistent line drives. On the mound, Gavin shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 74mph. Breaking ball sits from 63-64mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sis from 64-66mph with tailing action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Gavin is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

04/14/2019 - College PREP - Fayetteville, AR Gavin continues to excel on the diamond. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with his body. Range is a plus as moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with on line zip (82 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays on plane, working through a level swing path with power improving as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the bump, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work loose / clean to the plate. He works through a quick tempo and shows a 3 pitch mix. Fastball showed a range of 72-76 mph with slight cutting actions. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in improving stock on the mound.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Gavin continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. In the OF, he shows smooth / clean action. He utilizes his quick/aggressive feet as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Gavin shined once again at the event in Pirate City. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows an open, athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. At the event, he was 2 for 6 with a 2B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-74 mph with arm side run. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a great teammate.

10/28/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Joplin, MO Gavin is a strong OF/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. In the field, Gavin shows efficient footwork and is aggressive attacking the ball. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line to his target. Gavin can improve defensively by getting into a lower fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is fluid getting into his load and hits from a strong front side. He produces fast bat speed through the zone which leads to loud contact and line drives. Taking a shorter swing path can help Gavin improve as a hitter. On the mound, Gavin gathers over the rubber and works to keep his pitches around the zone. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph. Breaking ball sits from 65-67mph. Changeup sits from 63-67mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Gavin can improve as a pitcher by loosening his arm action. Overall, Gavin is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

03/25/2018 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Gavin showed on the mound and in the OF for the first time at the event. He continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.08. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying well above average hitting abilities with outstanding power potential. Hands are quick (88 exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft and he presents well, utilizing two hands through the process. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 70-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

03/26/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Oklahoma City, OK Gavin is a tall and thin 1B/RHP prospect. At 1B, Gavin has active pre pitch movement, stays down on the ball, and has good bag awareness. If he continues to work on his lateral movements, and staying aggressive to the ball he will increase his range at the position. At the plate, Gavin is a line drive hitter that stays inside the ball and gets extension through the zone. If he continues to work on a middle approach, drive his backside into the ball, and load on time he will continue to hit the ball with power to all fields. On the mound, Gavin gathers over the rubber and stays squared to the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 68mph with good arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 52-56mph with 10-4 break. Changeup ranges from 51-58mph. If he continues to ride his backside to the plate, create forward tilt toward the plate, will continue to create velocity on the ball and fill up the strike zone.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Gavin is a coachable player who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Winter Classic. In the field, Gavin presents his hands out front to field the ball and has a clean exchange to throw. He has a short arm action and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Gavin can improve defensively by getting into a lower position to field ground balls. At the plate, Gavin shows good power from the right side. He sets up in a square stance and gets back into his load well. He comes through the zone with decent bat speed producing solid contact and power. Gavin can improve as a hitter by using his lower half more in his swing. On the mound, Gavin is very deceptive and has a projectable arm. His fastball sits from 68-70mph. Gavin can improve as a pitcher by working to get to a balance point and by finishing square to the plate. Overall, Gavin is a solid prospect who has the time and potential to further develop his skills.

07/18/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Plano (DFW), TX Gavin is a talented 2-way player as a RHP/1B who can swing it. Offensively, this RHH has a balanced setup with rhythm to load. Quick hands whip the barrel to and through the zone as he connects with strength and drives the ball with pop. On the mound, Nally works to a controlled balance point and keeps his eyes on the target. FB tops out at 70 mph while showing slight tail. Changeup has run as he keeps it outside. At 1B - Gavin hustles and shows range to his GS & BH. Continuing to work on the following will help improve his all-around skill-set.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
