12/27/2023 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Gavin continues to impress with his baseball abilities at the Pirate City Christmas tournament. At 2B, defensive abilities are well above average. He displays proper footwork as he plays through the ball with his body. Glove action is soft and plays well out front. He moves well laterally and utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with online carry (86 mph velocity) to his target. He made several good plays in the MIF. At the plate, he has strength in his swing and shows the potential of gap-to-gap pop. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. He utilizes his lower half well through the swing. At the event, he was 2 for 5 with a 3B. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 81-85 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with good tilt. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Slider is harder with tight spin and short break. He shows good poise with composure on the bump. He shows a good feel for pitching with a solid mound presence. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/17/2023 - National Showcase - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Gavin continues to show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show at 2B for the first time at the event. At 2B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents out front. He utilizes his foot quickness (7.08 60 time) in covering a lot of ground. At the plate, hitting / power are now well above average through an open setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing as he transfers weight into a firm front side. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 86 mph. Fastball shows a range of 78-81 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Slider is harder with tight spin and short break. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/13/2023 - 2023 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament Gavin is an athletic OF/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average as he utilizes his aggressive feet as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate with online carry (86 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch arsenal in which to keep hitters guessing. FB shows a range of 76-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Gavin has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
