07/28/2023 - Baseball Factory National World Series at JRTC (HS) Gavin continues to shine with his baseball abilities on the diamond. At 1B, he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active and displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and presents out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness . At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 70 mph. Fastball showed a range of 63-70 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great teammate and is very coachable on the field.

07/17/2022 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Jackie Robinson Training Complex (HS) Gavin is a 2024 RHP/1B who worked hard during the Baseball Factory Pro Select Training and Tournament. Medium frame lean build with some strength present. A right-handed pitcher, quicker paced delivery who stays over center and moves down mound well. A 3/4 arm slot cuts off his release some and gets around the fastball. Worked up to 67mph on his FB and showed some feel for a softer breaking ball with good depth, solid spin to project on. Also worked out at 1B, attacks ball well, sound footwork, carries momentum and showed solid carry on his throws with an arm velocity up 72mph. At the plate, athletic and even stance. Has a hands-oriented swing on a level path, has some impact strength and best contact came to the pull side with a bat exit velocity up to 77mph. With 2 years of continued growth and development, we foresee this 2-way player making huge strides on the baseball field.

01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Pre-Season Prospects Tournament (HS) Gavin is a 2024 1B/RHP who showcased his skills at the Baseball Factory Pre-Season Prospects Tournament. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and strides in-line towards the plate. Separates his hands on-time and lands square to his target. He attacks hitters with a fastball that sat 65-67mph with some some movement. In 2 innings of work, he struck out 2 hitters and threw over 50% of his pitches for strikes. At 1B, he works to center the baseball and fields from a low/square fielding position. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot, with momentum towards target, and an arm velocity up to 73mph. A right-handed hitter, he hits from an athletic and open stance. Starts with activated hands and swings with intent. Has a high finish as he made contact to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 69mph. In live game action, he reached base multiple times and showed good plate discipline. Gavin is a solid 2-way player who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field with further development.

10/10/2021 - All-In Membership - San Antonio, TX Gavin is a 1B/RHP who will graduate high school in 2024. Medium frame athletic build with plenty of room to add more strength throughout. At 1B, he works to center the baseball and showed quick feet on his turns to second base. Showed ability to pick out hops, with a 1 hand field, and fields out front with soft hands. He made accurate/on-line throws from a 3/4 arm slot with an arm velocity up to 71mph. On the mound, he works with good direction and is balanced at release. Separates his hands on time and keeps eyes on target throughout his delivery. Throws a FB that sits 62-64mph with some arm side run and a 9/3 shaped breaking ball with good command. FB was best pitch during his bullpen. At the plate, he starts with an athletic and open stance. Quiet head and level eyes enable him to track pitches well. Made contact to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 70mph during his round of BP. With 3 years of continued growth and development, we foresee him having a bright future on the baseball diamond.

10/18/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Antonio, TX Gavin is a 1B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2024. In the field, Gavin makes the routine plays and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Getting into a lower fielding position can help Gavin field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and gets good extension through the ball, using the entire field well. Gavin can barrel up more baseballs by taking a shorter, more level swing path. On the mound, Gavin shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 62mph. Changeup sits from 57-58mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Cutter sits from 58-60mph. Loosening his arm action can help Gavin improve his pitch command. With four more years to develop, Gavin has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
