Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

06/14/2019 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series (Ages 14-18) Gavin is a lanky 2022 graduate the plays 1B/RHP. In the field Gavin is on the balls of his feet in a relaxed position with a good pre pitch routine. He works hard to get into a good fielding position. Using a long toss program should help with his arm strength. At the plate Gavin sets up in a square stance with relaxed hands. He works to get the barrel on plane and works to make consistent contact to put the ball in play. Working on the top hand / bottom hand drill should help Gavin with his hitting. On the mound Gavin shows a 3-pitch mix with a FB, CB, and CH. In his setup he shows confidence and is square on the rubber. He has a clean arm action, striding in line to his target and getting his chest out over his knee. Gavin needs to continue to improve his overall athleticism with strength and conditioning. We look forward to seeing Gavin's continued progress.

02/10/2019 - College PREP - Gainesville, FL Gavin is a skinny and athletic 2022 2-way prospect. At 1B, Gavin works off the bag and fields the ball in an athletic position. He creates a throwing lane and throws from multiple arm angles on double plays. At the plate, Gavin starts in an open stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. His hips and hands are in sync to the ball while he stays balanced through contact. He creates backside drive and has a pull side approach. On the bump, Gavin shows confidence in his ability and features 3 pitches. His fastball has slight arm side run, his curveball has a 9-3 break, and has some feel for the changeup. He separates on time, rides his back leg toward the plate, and keeps his eyes on his target. Gavin will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
