12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Gavin is a coachable C/RHP prospect who showed to be a real team player during his time at the Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. Behind the plate, Gavin receives the ball with firm hands and has a clean exchange to throw. He gains momentum well on his throws to 2B, keeping them consistently on-line to the bag. Gavin can improve defensively by sitting in a lower stance behind the plate. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a square stride. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed which leads to gap to gap pop. Gavin can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Gavin displays a good tempo and works both sides of the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph with cutting action. Breaking ball sits from 66-67 mph with 12-6 break. Changeup ranges from 62-63mph with good sinking action as he throws with fastball arm speed. Gavin can improve as a pitcher by loosening his arm action and extending through on his release. Overall, Gavin is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.
