12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Gavin continues to show the makings of a special type player with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. His feet play well, and he moves with good body control to the baseball, displaying proper footwork around bag. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves his foot quickness. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, flashing gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 4 for 7 with 2 2B and a 3B. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 71 mph. Fastball showed a range of 66-71 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/12/2019 - Interactive Video Program - San Marcos (San Diego), CA Gavin is a lean, athletic, 2-way player who plays 1st base and LHP. Defensively, Gavin has active feet, soft/presentable hands, and he centers the ball well. He has a good 1st step, makes plays, and has a clean exchange with an accurate arm to his target. On the mound, this LHP has good balance, a clean arm circle, and he separates his hands on time. He gets good extension on his pitches, competes in the zone, and finishes completely. Offensively, Gavin has a square/athletic set-up, good balance, and a still head. He has fast bat speed, makes hard contact, and he hits with strength to the pull side. Gavin can improve already solid skills with work on the following.

Defense
1. Hops
2. Stay low
Pitching
1. Lower body
2. Work down
Offense
1. Widen base
2. Barrel accuracy

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
