Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

02/18/2019 - College Recruiting Day - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Gavin is a solid, strong 3B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting abilities with well above average power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, he continues to shine as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-78 mph with heavy action on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is well above average as he throws Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Gavin has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues progress his game, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
