Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Gehrig continues to shine on the diamond. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, power potential is now solid through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 63 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/19/2019 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Gehrig is a 1B/LHP that showed to be a good hitter in Cape Cod. At the plate Gehrig went 8-11 with 3 2B. He sets up in an athletic stance with high hands. His load is simple with a soft and controlled stride. He keeps his swing smooth getting good extension as he makes consistent contact, showing the ability to hit the ball to all fields. At 1B, Gehrig shows effective footwork with a +1st step as he gets to the ball to field it athletically and low. His hands are soft and relaxed making a clean exchange to throw. Around the diamond his throws are accurate. Working on speed and agility with strength training will advance Gehrig's game. In the Cape Gehrig shows a good ability to be coached and make adjustments.

03/10/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Raleigh, NC Gehrig is a solid, 2-way player who plays 1st base and LHP. Defensively, Gehrig is aggressive to the ball, feet are active, and he covers ground well. He keeps the ball in front of his body, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a loose arm action to his target. On the mound, this LHP has good balance, on time separation, and he lands in a square position toward home plate. He mixes his off-speed in well and competes in the zone. Offensively, Gehrig has a square set-up, good balance, and a level/direct swing path. He puts the bat on the ball consistently and uses some lower body. Overall skills can continue to get better with work on the following.

1. Widen base
2. Fielding position
3. Arm strength
Pitching
1. Loosen arm action
2. Finish
3. Extension

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
