04/11/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Orange (Los Angeles), CA Gianluca is a 2023 C/OF. Tall frame, well-proportioned, and athletic build with strength present. Runs a 7.2 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, who shows ability to keep ball centered. Beats ball to spot and presents nice target for pitchers to throw to. Clean transfer and has good direction to second base. Creates blocking angles and covers the 5 hole well. Arm velocity has touched 83mph with pop times as low as 2.19. Secondary OF, active and efficient footwork as he works behind and through the baseball. Clean gather on the left side and then creates momentum into a quick release. Accurate throws and good carry on the baseball all the way to target. Right-handed hitter, starts with an upright and athletic stance. Low effort swing with ability to stay inside ball. Good hip rotation as he hits into a firm front side. Makes solid contact out front, when connected, with pull side power and a bat exit velocity of 87mph. Grip strength of combined 306 pounds is currently ranked #5 in country for 2023 class. With continued growth and development, we foresee him having the opportunity to play at the next level.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (TX) Gianiuca continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Runners will not want to test his arm with impressive pop times of 2.19. Offensively, he continues to shine through an open setup. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage, resulting in a barrel accuracy (82 mph exit velocity) through a line drive approach.

01/26/2020 - National Tryout Plus - San Diego, CA Gianluca continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.28 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone but will benefit by presenting a lower target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Feet are active as he works to square balls up but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a crouched setup. Hands are loose and work to and through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

07/16/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Gianluca is a strong, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.25 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he continues to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills are quality tools that will play at the next level as he continues to develop and get more reps. Blocking skills show potential as being outstanding as he is a wall behind the plate. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared with balance setup. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact, showing a feel for the barrel and uses the middle of the field well. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and good instincts with plays with a lot of energy. With 4 years to further develop, Gianluca has the makings of a special type player as he continues to develop and progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
