Official Scouting Report

  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Gianni is a tall, well-built OF/LHP prospect who has a versatile skill set and graduates in 2018. In the outfield, Gianni plays with effective footwork taking the correct angles to stay behind the baseball. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a low position making all the routine plays. He has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. Gianni plays with great momentum through the baseball showing strong, accurate throws with good carry. As a left-handed hitter, Gianni has an athletic stance with a firm front side and centered balance. He takes a load with an open stride. Gianni has fast bat speed with a direct swing path producing square contact. He has the ability to drive the ball to the pull side with good power. On the mound, Gianni does a nice job working downhill with good rhythm consistently repeating his delivery. He has balanced, on-time mechanics throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. Gianni extends through his release and stays square to home plate with a controlled landing at the proper stride length. He effective rotates towards his targets and finishes with his chest over his front knee. HIs fastball has tail movement at 79-81 MPH. He also has a medium breaking and deceptive changeup. Overall, Gianni has a versatile skill set with the right approach to the game giving him good potential to take his game to the next level.

12/18/2016 - College PREP - Madison (NYC), NJ Gianni is a long, lanky LHP/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.40. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He reads balls well off the bat and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He communicates well and works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a direct / level swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and flashing gap to gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 80-82 mph with arm side run. Slider shows tight spin, flashing sharp break but will benefit by releasing more out front. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Gianni has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
