Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1BPosition Projection

06/10/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Irvine (Los Angeles), CA Gilbert is a strong 1B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. At the plate, this LHH shows an advanced approach through an athletic setup. He is smooth to load and drives through well with his lower half. He gets good extension through the ball with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and great gap to gap power (91mph exit velo). In the field, Gilbert shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. His exchange is clean and he gains ground well on his throws, creating good carry through his target. Overall, Gilbert is a talented prospect who has the potential to be a real run producer at the next level.

02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - West) Gilbert is a thick/stocky (6'0"/225) two-way prospect (1B/LHP) in the class of 2022 with the potential to make some noise this season. At 1B, he showed off his glove and defense with smooth actions around the bag and fielding his position well. He uses soft hands at the corner position, working through a clean exchange. He releases the ball from a loose 3/4 arm action with carry. At the dish, this lefty stands in the box with a square/athletic position with comfortable hands. He has a controlled rhythm/timing through an activated load, keeping his weight centered through his lower half creating a firm front leg. Gilbert works through an on-plane/smooth swing path with pop (exit velo = 88 mph) showing off gap-to-gap power. From the mound, he works with a two-pitch mix while working ahead in counts. FB ranges 79-82 with tail and CB has 2-8 shape with good break. He has the potential to become a complete pitcher as he continues to develop. Gilbert is a great competitor and has to ability to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
