11/17/2019 - College PREP - Pearland (Houston), TX Gilberto is a LHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. On the mound, Gilberto gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Gilberto shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 64-65mph with 1-7 break. Changeup sits from 65-66mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Continuing to add strength can help Gilberto improve as a pitcher. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a closed stance and hits against a strong front side. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed, leading to consistent contact to the opposite field. Gilberto can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. Overall, Gilberto is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
