06/23/2011 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 Gino lowered his 60 time and also improve his fielding grade during his time in Omaha. Defensively, Gino shows soft hands, solid backhand range, and he keeps the ball in front of his body. He gives good effort, plays through the ball, and he can pick the ball out of the dirt. Gino has a clean exchange and he delivers the ball accurately to his target. At the plate, Gino has a balanced approach, he attacks the middle of the field, and he has late explosion through the ball. He has pop in his bat and he makes good use of his lower 1/2.

05/01/2011 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Giglio showed some minor defensive improvements during his last workout in Selden, NY. He increased his radar velocity from 73 to 75 MPH, and improved his arm grade from 38 to 42. At 1st base, Gino showed soft hands, active footwork, and good knowledge of the bag. He keeps his feet moving, keeps the ball in front of his body, and his exchange is clean. Gino throws with a short arm action with accuracy and average strength to his target. Defensive grades can get better if Gino can play more low to high, field further out in front of his body, and lengthen his arm action. At the plate, Gino has an open stance, a proper load, and a square stride. He has good bat speed, and a rhythmic swing. Gino has a level swing plane and he has some pop to the pull side. Hitting can get better if Gino can loosen his grip, keep his hands high, and throw his hands more directly to the ball with better extension.

03/20/2011 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Gino is a young and thick 1st baseman. Defensively, Gino has soft / sure hands, active feet, and he has good agility for his size. He attacks the ball aggressively, makes the routine plays, and has a clean exchange. Gino has a short / loose arm action, and he throws with accuracy to his target. Gino will need to play in a lower position, field further out in front of his body, and add arm strength in order to get better at 1B. At the plate, Gino has a crouched stance, proper load, and a repeatable swing. He has decent bat speed, a level swing, and he puts the ball in play. Gino will need to avoid lunging, keep his hands high, and improve his extension in order to raise offensive tool grades.

09/04/2010 - Accelerated Infield Weekend Gino is a (2012) 1B with large, solid frame that is well suited for his position and shows projection as he continues to polish and firm up. Foot work around the bag is a plus and he consistently showed the abilities to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. He shows good body control but needs to work on presenting glove action more down and out front as he breaks down sooner. Throws are accurate but needs to get on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. Giglio showed a good feel for his position and is very coachable. With 2 years to further develop, Gino has time and room to continue to grow.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
