Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

02/16/2020 - College PREP - Sioux Falls, SD Grafton showed defensive improvements and a spike in arm strength to 79 MPH and exit velocity to 74 MPH during his last workout. At SS, Grafton has quick feet, agile range, and he fields in a square position. He fields cleanly, plays through properly, and his exchange is quick with a strong/accurate arm to his target. Continuing to add arm strength will only make defense better. On the mound, Grafton has good balance and a clean arm circle. He separates his hands on time, he has a controlled landing toward home, and he finishes in a complete position. More finish and extension will help mound effectiveness improve. At the plate, this LHH has an athletic set-up, a rhythmic swing, and quick hands. He gets good separation, solid extension through the baseball, and he finds the barrel consistently. Hitting can further improve with a shorter swing and more finish.

02/23/2019 - College Recruiting Day - Sioux Falls, SD Grafton is an athletic SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2022. In the field, Grafton shows proper footwork and takes good angles to the ball. He makes the routine plays and keeps his throws accurate to his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and maintains center balance. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to solid contact and line drives. On the mound, Grafton gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and stays inline towards the plate. Grafton shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 71mph with tailing action. Changeup sits from 60-62mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. With three more years to develop, Grafton has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
