04/13/2014 - College PREP - Bartlett (Memphis), TN Grant improved his pop times behind the plate as he threw his best pop time to date at 2.12. He works in line to his target and gets rid of the baseball quickly with life, accuracy, and on line carry on his throws. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered.

11/17/2013 - National Tryout - Germantown (Memphis), TN Alexander continues to work hard behind the dish. He sits in well and tracks the ball into his mitt. He sticks is and frames well. At the plate, this righty displays good balance as he waits for his pitch. He swings on a level path and squares the ball up. Grant should find success on the diamond this upcoming (junior) season.

10/16/2013 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Grant continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest times to date, now showing a range of 2.15-2.27 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools at the next level as he continues to improve. He shows a solid primary / secondary stance. At the plate, he shows a squared / upright stance with balance. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to let the ball travel and work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Mental makeup is a plus as he is eager to learn, is a hard worker, and will continue to improve with more reps.

04/21/2013 - College PREP - Bartlett (Memphis), TN Grant is a 2015 catcher who is an athlete behind the plate. He shows quick actions which are evident in his lateral range when blocking and in coming out of the chute on throws to 2B. He receives well with soft hands and a quiet glove doing a nice job of helping his pitchers to get strikes. At the plate he has a level, direct swing path resulting in line drives between the gaps. A little more rhythm at the plate and some refinements defensively will make Grant a sought after recruit in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
