08/24/2013 - Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory Grant was one of four pitchers to reach at least 95 on gameday. He touched it a couple of times actually, and sat around 92. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning to keep his team just one run down with a chance to tie or go ahead in the bottom half. He allowed one hit, struck out one and walked one. Most people like him as a two pitch guy that eventually finds his way to a late inning bullpen role, his stuff is that good. To go with his low to mid 90s fastball, he spins an excellent breaking ball in the low to mid 80s. The best ones I saw today were 81, with late and sharp action. He has feel for both pitches, and is aggressive to the zone with both.

09/22/2012 - 2012 Team One Futures Series East Grant is a thick, stocky RHP that will graduate in 2014 with pro abilities on the mound. Delivery is outstanding, displaying repeatable / sound mechanics that allows his arm action to work quickly and freely to the plate. He hides the ball well through a strong balance point. Arm strength is at a pro level as he topped out at 93 mph. Fastball shows a range of 91-93 mph with arm side run that bores in on hitters. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with sharp breaking action with late depth. Command / control are tremendous as he throws strikes with all his pitches and attacks hitters, changing speeds well. With 2 years to further develop, Holmes has the makings to be a top 2014 draft guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
