Official Scouting Report

  • Position Projection

12/27/2011 - Vero Beach Christmas Camp and Tournament Grant is a 2016 graduate who is a RHP and plays SS. On the mound he showed athleticism and good/loose arm action. Grant needs to stay in-line with his target, use his glove side more, and develop his off speed pitches. It will also help him to be more energetic and confident on the mound. In the infield he has a controlled approach, he uses two hands and he has playable range but he needs to lower his fielding position. Also he needs to field the ball out front more, be more aggressive and come through short hops. At the plate Grant showed some potential however, he needs to stride directly at the pitcher, shorten his swing, get his timing straight and keep his front side closed (pulls head/shoulder). If Grant puts the work in to polish up his skills there is no reason he cannot be a good player in the future.

08/15/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Adrian (Detroit), MI Grant is a tall, thin, RHP / SS with a pitcher's frame. On the mound, Grant has a FB that touches 64 MPH, he has on-time separation, and he works in good rhythm. He competes in the zone with his pitches and pitches to contact. In the INF, Grant has soft / sure hands, active feet, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He has a good approach, he fields in a square position, and his exchange is clean. Grant has a long arm action, and he throws with accuracy and average strength to his target. Offensively, Grant has a square set-up, a proper load, and good balance. He has a level swing, he makes hard contact, and he swings in good rhythm. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Lengthen arm action
2. Finish off pitches
3. Improve direction
Defense
1. Field further out in front
2. Long toss
Offense
1. Smaller stride
2. Bat speed
3. More lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
