Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHPPosition Projection

10/07/2015 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Grant is entering his senior season as a RHP. On the bump, he works with 3-pitches from a high 3/4 slot and throws with multiple, deceiving arm slots. His FB is in the low 80s and flashes 2 solid off-speed pitches in the low 70s that keep hitters off balance. Working in a straighter direction and staying balanced will allow Grant's pitching stock to jump. Grant is a reliable righty that will challenge hitters, throw strikes and give his team a chance every time he toes the rubber.

07/10/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National East Grant shows consistency in his game. This RHP is a go-to arm when you need strikes & outs. FB has slight cut as he works it in and out. Curveball shows 11/5 shape with early action. He stays directional toward the dish and repeats his delivery well. He works to keep the ball down in the zone and get GB outs. A 6'0"/200 RHP - Grant will compete every time he toes the rubber.

06/07/2015 - College PREP - River Forest (Chicago), IL Grant continues to impress on the diamond. He pumps his FB at 89 mph showing late run. He hits his spots and works both sides of the dish. Breaking ball shows 12/6 shape with sharp action showing to be a solid out pitch. He works to stay on top and drive downhill toward the plate. With the bat, this RHH has a line-drive approach with good balance. Ball jumps off of his barrel when centered as he uses the whole field. Grant is a RHP who has a very bright future on the mound.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Grant is a primary RHP that will graduate in 2016. On the mound Grant has a 3 pitch mix that includes a solid fastball, a curve with an 11/5 shape, and a change that has good sink. He is a confident pitcher and works ahead of hitters. He knows how to pitch and he fields his position well with good athleticism. Grant has lot of upside and will only get better with more in game experience.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Grant led by example as a hard worker and strong competitor. A strong arm created a throw with carry from the outfield. Quicker reads and a more relaxed approach would create a smoother player. On the mound Grant showed good control with a delivery that had a strong finish. A high break created a short arm stroke that could keep him from showing the same velocity he does in the field. As a hitter Grant has quick hands with good wrist action. To increase power, he needs to engage and drive his lower 1/2 more through the swing. Potential to develop on the mound is very evident as he has a high ceiling.

06/01/2014 - College PREP - River Forest (Chicago), IL Grant is a RHP who has a strong arm. He has a 3-pitch arsenal coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and short/quick arm-action. He drives his lower 1/2 with a FB that explodes in the zone cracking the mitt at 86 mph. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with sharp break. He has plus command as can locate his pitches well. Changeup shows lat/hard run and will get in on the RHH. With the bat, he has an aggressive approach as he's looking to take a hack. He gets back into a loaded position and connects with the ball. He is a contact type hitter, squaring the ball up consistently. A projectable RHP - Grant will throw strikes and get outs.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
