Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Grant showed well both on the mound and at the plate during the Pre-Season. He has clean actions on the hill, a free arm action, and he works on a downhill plane. Grant has a soft landing, he commands the zone will, and gets good extension through the ball. Offensively, Grant has quick hands, an aggressive swing, and good bat speed. He has good barrel accuracy and the ball jumps off his bat.

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Grant continues to improve and impress as a talented 2 way player. On the mound, Grant has a ton of upside and has gotten stronger through his delivery while improving command. He pitches to contact while effectively changing speeds and has a great frame for the pitching position. At the plate, he looks very comfortable/confident and displays advanced barrel accuracy with bat speed. Line drive hitter, he has improved his ability to go the other way and is on his way to being a complete hitter/difference maker at the next level. As a 3B, Grant has all the moves of a natural infielder, clean hands, strong arm and he has an idea of the responsibilities that come with the 3B position. Overall, Grant has done a real good job to this point and needs to continue to seek ways to get better, sky is the limit for this young man!

10/24/2012 - Arizona Freshman/Sophmore Fall Classic In Grant's first showcase event with Baseball Factory he showed remarkably well in every category. The two-way player not only went 7 for 11 in the tournament, but he also pitched at a high level. On defense, he has good carry/life to his throws and is accurate with quality mechanics. His hands are sure/smooth, footwork clean/quick, and he takes good first steps and angles to field the ball square/athletically. Offensively, he has good balance, clean/level bat path, firm front side, good barrel accuracy, and trusts his pace and natural ability. At times, he gets pull happy and finds himself pulling his head or rolling over on balls. He should work on pitch selection, hitting the early fastball and protecting with 2 strikes. On the mound, he throws three pitches for strikes, touching 84 MPH with his fastball and throwing a solid breaking ball after getting his feel. His arm action is clean, delivery sound, and control decent. Realizing how long it takes for him to get ready, if hes starting games, will help him get right out and be even more effective in games. We believe he did not have enough bullpen time to get a solid feel for all his pitches, as he became even stronger as the game progressed. Overall, the tall/athletic/projectable Grant has a bright future in this game and with three more season's of high school baseball left, should be an immediate impact guy stepping on a college campus.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
