01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Grant is an athletic two-way prospect who continued to show well at the UAAAPS Tournament. In the field, Grant shows active footwork and centers the ball in the middle of his body. He gets into a low, athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He has a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws which allows them to carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting back into his load and leads well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed which leads to hard contact and gap to gap pop. On the mound, Grant shows a solid delivery as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm action and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. Grant shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 85mph. Breaking ball sits from 67-69mph with 10-4 break. Grant is a talented prospect who has the skills that will translate well to the next level.

11/05/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Vinton (Roanoke), VA Grant continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. He did show on the mound for the first time where he has a big upside. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 84 mph. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 83-84 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with arm side run. At 3B, he displays proper footwork in attacking balls and playing through well. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate power potential has really improved, now showing outstanding abilities through an open setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball exploding off his bat when centered.

11/06/2016 - College PREP - Vinton (Roanoke), VA Grant has really improved his baseball abilities since the last time we saw him and shows the makings of a special type player at the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure as he presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with life, accuracy, and carry across the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine as he displays well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. With 3 years to further develop, Grant will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

11/01/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Vinton (Roanoke), VA Grant continues to show as a 3B/RHP but currently projects best in the 3B for the next level. Defensive grades have improved, displaying smooth / fluid actions. He attacks ground balls through an aggressive approach and displays soft / sure hands as he makes all the plays. Hands are soft / sure but needs to present more out front. Arm strength has improved as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, hitting / power grades have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work inside the ball as he utilizes all fields through a line drive approach. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to load more and transfer weight properly through his lower half. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 66-69 mph with arm side run with off speed stuff showing potential as being quality pitches as he continues to develop. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Grant continues to show as a 3B and on the mound for the first time at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive grade have improved as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he squares balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the routine plays. He shows off his athletic abilities on his as he attacks balls while playing through well. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he continues to increase foot quickness and presents hands more out front. Throws display accuracy but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the ball quicker. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path through an aggressive approach. He works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 64-66 mph with cutting action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all pitches, pounding the zone. Stock on mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and develops another off speed pitch. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays with a lot of energy and is very coachable, working hard to be the best player he can be with a promising future on the diamond.

11/02/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Vinton (Roanoke), VA Grant is a skilled 2-way player as an 3B/OF. At 3B, he hustles into a square fielding position with active footwork. He has a clean exchange and works in-line toward his target at 1B making accurate throws. In the OF, Grant is aggressive and tracks down down fly-balls hit into the gaps. He takes solid routes/angles, secures the ball, and plays through it well. With the bat, this RHH displays an open stance with good balance. He squares the ball up and drives the middle of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work not the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
