Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

10/12/2016 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Greg is a hardworking 3B/RHP prospect who has a wiry frame and good baseball IQ. In the field, Greg plays with quick footwork and covers ground laterally. He has a nice low approach and presents his glove early as he attacks the baseball. Greg has a clean exchange leading to a quick release from a 3/4 arm slot. He plays with momentum towards his target and is consistent in his throws. Offensively, Greg has an open stance with a square stride and smooth load. He maintains a centered balance and has a short swing. He barrel consistently finds the baseball. Greg has a line drive approach and always gets out the box with hustle. On the mound, Greg has a simple, repeatable delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot with great control. He maintains direction with his stride and finishes with his chest over his front knee. Greg has a full arsenal and his best pitch is his deceptive change-up thrown with the same arm speed as his FB. Greg is a coachable prospect with a solid skill set that can certainly impact a program at the next level.

08/21/2016 - College PREP - Dickinson, ND Greg continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.20. At 3B, defensive abilities are now outstanding as he displays smooth / athletic actions. He moves well laterally, covering a lot of ground, displaying range in the MIF. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate he has improved, now displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. On the mound arm strength has increased as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing a feel for with sinking action. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in developing stock on the mound.

10/28/2015 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Greg is an athletic 2-way player who has the versatility to make things happen at both spots. Defensively at the hot corner - Greg has active prep footwork and is aggressive to come and get the GB. Hands are soft/sure as he gathers well and has a smooth transfer/exchange to throw. He has the ability to throw from multiple arm slots getting rid of the ball accurately. Offensively, this righty stands in well with centered balance and rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and waits for his pitch. Swing is level as he connects and drives the middle of the field. On the bump, Greg has a repeatable delivery and pounds the zone with strikes. He works the ball to both sides of the plate and challenges hitters to put the ball in play. FB tops out at 76 mph with slight cut. Curveball has 11/5 shape with good action. CH has sink - resulting in GB outs. Greg is a coachable player who is willing to make adjustments to his game. He has a ton of upside as he enters his junior season.

08/16/2015 - College PREP - Dickinson, ND Greg is a 2-way player as a RHP/3B. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, gets good glove-side lead and stays directional toward the plate. FB ranges from 67-68 mph as he pounds the zone with strikes. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with good action - he will see improved effectiveness by finishing the pitch with more extension on his release. Changeup has slight cut as he throws it with FB arm speed. Gaining more arm strength through a long toss program will help to add velocity on his FB and make him that much more effective. At 3B, Greg shows active prep footwork and comes to get the GB. He gathers smoothly, plays through the ball well and has a clean exchange to throw. As a hitter - this righty displays a square setup with good balance. He has quiet actions and tracks pitches into the zone. He barrels the ball up consistently and drives the middle of the field. More lower 1/2 drive will help to tap into more power potential. A 2017 grad - Greg has skills with still some time to fine tune them.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
