07/16/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Gregory continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix in his arsenal. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. Fastball showed a range of 73-76 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 60-62 mph with 11/5 shape gradual break. Changeup sits from 61-63 mph with sinking action. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness.

10/14/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Gregory is a long, athletic two-way player who is currently more advance as a first baseman. He can really swing it with the ability to make consistent contact and flash pop to the pull side. He stays balanced throughout his swing and gets on plane early to stay level through the zone. He shows a middle approach and makes consistent contact and uses all fields. At first, he has a quick first step to show extended range and makes plays to both sides. His hands are clean to exchange and get rid of the ball to make accurate throws. On the bump, this right hander shows an upper 60's FB with arm side action, a 10-4 curve and a deceptive changeup. He stands tall and works downhill towards the hitter with an athletic delivery. A looser arm stroke would allow for more whip and velocity on his pitches. Gregory is a player we want to watch as he continues to develop.

10/08/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Gregory is a long, lean two-way prospect who is currently more advanced as a first baseman. He shows solid tools across the board for his young age, with plenty of potential for many of them to develop into impressive skills. He has a patient, selective approach at the plate, understanding his strengths and working for a pitch he can drive. He lets the ball travel and uses all fields with a level swing path to make consistent contact. At first, he has fluid actions both to field and when receiving around the bag. He shows extended lateral range and fields athletically to keep everything in front and pick balls out of the dirt. On the bump, he works directionally towards the plate with repeatable, consistent mechanics. He works well out of the stretch, creating a downhill plane to the hitter to induce weak contact. Implementing a long toss program will result in an uptick in velocity and stuff moving forward. Gregory is a young prospect we definitely want to keep an eye on.

07/18/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Gregory is a tall, athletic 1B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 63-67 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 6 years to further develop, Gregory has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
