01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ryan has really improved his baseball abilities and shows as a special type player at the next level. In the MIF, defensive abilities are tremendous, displaying easy / loose actions. He is light on his feet and presents a sure glove out front. Hands / feet work well together with big play potential. At the plate, hitting abilities are outstanding through a simple / quiet setup. Hands are quick and generate plus bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball and shows a feel for the barrel, displaying gap to gap pop.

09/20/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Woodbridge (DC), VA Gregory is a hard worker who has molded himself into a solid all-around prospect. Defensively, he has quick/active footwork and works aggressively around the GB from right to left. He has soft/sure hands, makes the backhand play effortlessly and has a quick/clean exchange to throw. At the plate - this RH swinger displays a balanced setup with rhythm in his hands. Barrel delivery is quick through a level path as he connects with pop (exit velocity = 81 mph). Even more power potential is there with more lower 1/2 drive. A 2018 grad - Ryan has the tools that will provide success. He has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

05/11/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Ashland, VA Gregory continues to develop on the diamond. Offensively, this RHH shows a solid setup with a strong base. He drives the barrel to and through the zone, squaring it up and hitting the ball on a line. At SS, Ryan actively works around the ground ball and presents his glove out in front. He moves well from right to left and plays through toward his target. On the bump, FB now tops out at 71 mph while he throws it for strikes consistently. He keeps his eyes on the target and fills up the zone. Finishing with extension will help to improve effectiveness on the bump. Only a 2018 grad - Gregory still has time to work and develop his game.

09/14/2013 - Pitcher/Catcher Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Gregory is a young athletic pitcher with a long/free arm action. He displays a controlled balance point, level shoulders, good direction to the plate, and a complete finish. His curveball has a 10/4 late break and his change up shows good AS run and arm speed. Gregory is able to locate all three pitches for strikes, keeping hitters off balance. Cutting down on his stride will help improve his command, but not to the point where it limits his lower half. Gregory is a hard worker and projects well in the future, it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

11/15/2012 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Greg showed a lot potential while at Pirate City. As a fielder he makes plays, works around the ball well and fields out front but needs to gain more ground, play through more and work on his footwork through the exchange. On the mound Greg has simple actions, he has repeatable mechanics and has good body language. He needs to keep his elbow up, keep his front hip closed off and use more glove side lead. At the plate he is athletic but needs to develop a smoother load, keep his weight back (he tends to drift forward) and let the ball travel into the proprer hitting zone. In Pirate City Greg showed himself to be a coachable kid with solid fundamentals and he has a good feel for the game.

09/08/2012 - Infield Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 12-14) Gregory is a strong defender that displays great body control and smooth actions. His feet are active and fluid with sure/soft hands. Range is strong to the left and backhand will improve with a more explosive first step. Gregory displays an above average fielding position with his hands out in front and his body reaching a low athletic position. He can focus on having more flex in his fielding arm making sure he is not fully extended which will improve his reaction to balls that have bad hops. Arm action is fluid displaying multiple angles which is key for a SS. Arm strength will improve by playing through the ball more and finishing his throws, focus on following your throws taking your nose to your target. Overall Gregory shows excellent fundamentals and ability in the infield. Continue to work on the foot speed drills we worked on at the beginning of camp. With a couple of years to develop before high school Gregory should turn out to be a special player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
