Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

09/04/2020 - MS All-Region Tournament Griffin is a young (2025 grad) 2-way player (1B/LHP) who showed well during his time at the All-Region Tournament. With the bat, this lefty shows an athletic stance with centered balance and fluid rhythm to load. Loose hands whip the barrel to and through the zone on a direct path as he connects and hits hard line-drives. At 1B, he has active prep and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He picks out the hops, makes the plays with soft hands and gathers well. On the mound, this lefty throws a FB & CB from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose arm action. He works to a controlled balance point, keeps his eyes on the target and repeats well. FB tops out at 66 mph as he works it in and out. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with some depth but will improve effectiveness by becoming more consistent with his release point. Kelly has skills with upside and still a ton of time to progress.

07/16/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Griffin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a bright future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. He has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At 1B, feet are active as he shows proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

06/02/2019 - Interactive Video Program - River Forest (Chicago), IL Griffin showed well at 1B and in the OF during his last workout with The Factory. In the INF, Griffin has a presentable glove, efficient footwork, and he fields in a low/square position. He has a presentable glove, creates a good fielding angle, and throws with consistency from a long/loose arm action to his target. In the OF, Griffin has active feet, good pre-pitch actions, and he fields ground balls aggressively. He follows his throws and gains ground toward his cut off man. Offensively, this RHH has an open set-up, good balance, and a direct swing path. He hits line drives and can hit to all fields. Griffin raised velocity to 56 MPH during the event.

08/02/2018 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 12-14) Griffin is an athletic and talented 2025 1B prospect that works hard and made several adjustments throughout the week. At 1B, Griffin is on time with his prep step, has good footwork off the bag, and picks the ball well. Continuing to practice game like throws in his throwing program will increase his ability to throw from multiple arm angles and on the run. At the plate, Griffin starts in an athletic stance, stays balanced through contact, and has an opposite field approach. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and create backside rotation. Griffin is eager to learn and will continue to improve with experience.

04/29/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Elgin (Chicago), IL Griffin is a young, athletic, 2-way player who plays 1B and OF. At 1B, Griffin has a low approach to the ball, his feet are active, and he takes proper angles to the ball. He presents his glove well, has a clean exchange, and throws momentum from a short arm action to his target. In the OF, Griffin has efficient footwork, he fields low, and takes good angles. He reads the ball off the bat well and has an accurate arm to his cut off man. Offensively, Griffin has a square/athletic set-up, a short/square stride, and good balance. He loads well, has a middle of the field approach, and finds the barrel consistently. Griffin can continue to improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Long toss
2. Accuracy
3. Fielding position
Outfield
1. Sooner glove
2. Release
3. Long toss
Offense
1. Strength
2. Contact points
3. Bat speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
