Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Griffin is an athletic and talented 2023 RHP/3B prospect. At 3B, Griffin is aggressive to the ball and plays through the backhand. Continuing to present a low/early glove, working from the ground up, and fielding the ball in front of his body will allow him to be a more consistent fielder. At the plate, Griffin gets his hands back into the drive position and stays balanced through contact. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and using the lower half will allow him to drive the ball to all fields. On the bump, Griffin stays balance over the rubber, separates on time, and gets extension over the front side. Continuing to develop his secondary pitches will elevate his game on the mound. Griffin will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Griffin is a projectable RHP/3B prospect who has a versatile skill set. On the mound, Griffin has a balanced delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He pitches with good tempo and shows a quick arm action. Griffin does a nice job uses his lower half throughout his motion. He rotates effectively with his core and finishes with his chest over his front knee. Griffin does a nice job working downhill and shows a 12-6 o'clock breaking curveball. Offensively, Griffin has a tall setup with a centered balance. He has a load with a short stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Griffin works to stay inside the baseball as he stays short with his swing. He is a contact type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. In the field, Griffin plays with some rhythm and works to make the routine plays. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a square position with good glove extension. He has a short arm action and throws from a 3/4 arm slot. His throws are consistent across the diamond and he is building arm strength. Overall, Griffin is a talented prospect who has a projectable skill with the ability to develop his game.

08/27/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Glendale (Milwaukee), WI Griffin is a (5'4''/120) RHP. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and keeps his eyes on target. He delivers a 3-pitch mix coming from a hi 3/4 arm with loose arm action and keeps his FB down in the zone. On offense with the bat, Griffin has a quiet head and uses a middle of the field approach. He swings on a direct path through the zone and has good barrel feel as he squares up pitches in the zone. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Deliver more strikes
2. Strong frontside
3. Finish with balance
Offense
1. Develop rhythm
2. Improve bat speed
3. Lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
