12/20/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Griffin is a well rounded athlete who worked hard on his skill-set during his time at Pirate City. He is a very coachable player who has a willingness to learn. Defensively, he shows active prep footwork and moves well on the balls of his feet. He works around the GB from right to left and tracks the ball into a soft mitt. He has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws across the diamond. Continuing to strengthen his arm (long toss) will help to take his skills on the left side of the infield to the next level. As a hitter, Speaks has a square/tall set with fluid rhythm to load. He tracks pitches into the zone and off of the barrel, squaring the ball up and driving it on a line. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path while engaging more of his lower 1/2 will help to improve skills at the plate. On the mound, this RHP pounds the zone with strikes. He works his FB in and out as it has slight run, now topping out at 75 mph. Changeup compliments his FB well as he maintains good arm-speed, helping to create deception. Working to drive off of the rubber more with his lower 1/2 will help to get even more into his FB. Only a 2019 grad - Griffin has a solid skill-set with upside as he continues to develop.
