Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Gunnar is a projectable (RHP/1B) who has a strong frame (6'4"/200). On the mound, this righty works to a tall/controlled balance point and has smooth separation. He gets strong glove side lead and drives downhill pushing off of the rubber well. FB shows tail now topping out at 82 mph. He works the ball in and out, throwing strikes consistently and challenging hitters. Curveball has 11/5 shape with good action. Changeup is effective 'out pitch' with good run and sink. At 1B - Gunnar has active footwork and moves well for a guy with his frame. He is sure handed and can pick it smoothly. As a hitter- this strong righty stands in well with centered balance and rhythm to load. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2, creating hard contact and pulling it with pop. Barnard has a high ceiling. This versatile player can make things happen in a variety of ways on the diamond.

03/22/2015 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Gunnar is a big bodied (6'3"/210) R/R RHP/1B. On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He remains compact throughout his delivery and drives off in-line toward the plate. FB cracks the mitt at 80 mph while showing slight run and life. Slider has 10/4 shape with sharp action and will serve as a solid out pitch. Changeup has run and will get in on the RHH's. He is effective with all of his pitches and fills up the zone with strikes. Finishing with more extension will help abilities to improve on the mound. With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with good balance. He works back into a loaded position, swings with authority and connects with strength, driving the ball to all parts of the field. He will fit the clean-up type roll nicely with his ability to drive the ball to the gaps. At 1B, he shows active footwork as he works behind the GB. He tracks the ball into his mitt and gathers well. He gets to inaccurate throws with the ability to pick it. Only a 2017 grad - Gunnar has the versatility to make things happen in many aspects of the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
